Sew Saturdays

What are Sew Saturdays?

We've been running Sew Saturday workshops at Knit & Stitch for a few years now. The aim was to teach a specific skill that can be used again and again.

We teach a monthly patchwork block using different techniques or an element of dressmaking such as inserting zips, using bias binding or simply getting to know your sewing machine or overlocker. With the patchwork blocks we construct a new design each time - the possibilities are endless and the skills taught help you develop your overall sewing skills. We've covered all kinds of patchwork blocks and Louise is always finding new ways to cut then sew back together fabrics to form a different effect.

Even if you have no interest in Patchwork & Quilting, there are skills taught during these sewing classes that are totally transferrable to other sewing projects.

They take place (usually) on a Saturday of every month and are condensed into a 3-hour workshop teaching a different technique each time. We restrict each class to just six students to allow space to work. These workshops are excellent value at just £27 per class; this includes the fabric and materials needed, use of equipment, a handout and refreshments and well as a few hours well spent in good company!

What people say about Sew Saturday classes...

I love the variety of what we make and also Louise will ask us if we have any suggestions for future workshops.

It's also great to meet up with the lovely ladies who do the workshops.

We are also encouraged to go out of our comfort zone and try things we've never done before.

I always love the projects, the warm welcome and it's great meeting others. Louise is patient and always helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Everyone helps and it doesn't mater if your a beginner or more experienced. It's always good fun.

I love the fact that I walk in empty-handed and walk out with a new block for my quilt, a new skill/technique and a great big smile I like getting to spend the afternoon with lovely people, some I’ve known for a while and some I get to meet for the first time And I love spending a whole afternoon doing one of the things that makes me very happy…and stocking up on ‘essentials’ before I leave

I enjoy the challenge of learning new skills and I love the camaraderie of Louise and the friendly ladies in the group. Always finish the project even if sometimes at home and have learned a lot. I have gained confidence to try new things or deviate from patterns rather than following faithfully. It's also great to see all the fabrics in the workbook to plan my next project

I like that the classes are fun, everyone makes you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble for louise. May walk in alone but you leave as friends.

Always guaranteed warm welcome, friendly ladies always willing to offer support to new members, Louise is a great tutor, patient if its something new, and well thought out activities sometimes with a twist to add a bit more if you fancy a challenge. Always walk out having learnt a new skill, something you can take away and practise and feeling great that you've spent a few hours with like minded people
